Winds of Change
It’s been a few weeks since I put up a new weekly illustration/graphic. It’s not that I don’t have ideas, but more a matter of time and energy. I’ve been back to work (in a non-graphic design field) since May, and finding time to sit down and plug away has been a challenge. I’m currently sitting on 4-5 different things that just need to be finished. I’ll get them up as I get them done, but not on a regular schedule for a bit. Once a couple things are done in my daily life, I can get a better schedule set up.
Mentally, my outlook on what I want to do with graphic design has been in flux. I still want to get my freelance work going, along with a side gig with my friend once he is able to, but it’s more about how I view myself.
Am I a graphic designer, or am I an artist that does graphic design?
Here lately it’s been the latter. Graphic Designer is a job title, which I no longer have, but I’ve always been an artist. Whether it’s graphic design, sculpture, drawing, painting, video, music, etc. that’s what I’ve been. I think it’s time I lean into that. Doing nothing but Army graphics has left what talent I have stuck in a box and it has been creatively limiting.
Change is inevitable.
